Welcome To Brewer Style!
Hi, my name is Kevin Zimmermann and I’m the creator of Brewer Style. Brewer Style is a one stop shop with information and reviews for the drinks you love that are brewed at home – coffee, beer, and tea. These are three things that I love and all have interesting beginnings to how I’ve come to love each of these drinks.
Coffee
Like a lot of people I used to frequent Starbucks quite a bit. It was mostly on the weekends, but even that can get a little expensive. Well, one day my I attended the grand opening of a kolache and coffee shop that was started by some friends of my wife. I decided I’d order the same drink that I would normally get at Starbucks – a vanilla latte. My expectations weren’t very high.
The shock and surprise on my face must have been incredible after I tasted the coffee. I remember telling my wife “Holy crap, this is WAY better than Starbucks!” I talked to my wife’s friends for a while and we talked about the coffee. They taste tested something like 150 different coffees, and settled on purchasing coffee from Big Bend Coffee Roasters out of Marfa, Texas.
After that day I went out and ordered some coffee online and bought an espresso machine. I taste tested syrups that I like until I ultimately settled on one. In the end, I settled on the Signature vanilla syrup by Torani. At this point, I don’t even know how much money I saved by not going to coffee shops. I only go now when I truly have no other choice.
Beer
I’d probably be considered someone who hopped on the bandwagon when it comes to homebrewing. Although, I do remember going to Busch Gardens as a kid and being fascinated with the process after touring the factory. I admittedly don’t have as much experience with homebrewing, but plan to dive deeper into it. You need space and a time commitment to really do it well.
As I dive into homebrewing I will certainly chronicle it. It’s a fascination that I hope develops into a passion.
Tea
Tea is a beverage that I didn’t appreciate, or even know I liked, until I got a little bit older. In a lot of ways I got lucky with my true introduction to tea. As part of my day job I do have to travel globally at times. In particular, I often travel to India, China, and Taiwan. In all three of those countries Tea is a large part of their culture.
One of my unforgettable tea experiences was with some Chinese colleagues and I was shown how traditional tea was served and experienced. At the time, I had no idea that you weren’t supposed to pour your own tea or that their tea sets were vastly different than American tea sets.
But I discovered that I not only enjoyed drinking tea, but also discovered a lot of the reasons why tea is healthy for you. And of course I also love a good unsweetened iced tea in the summer. Where I live in Texas you wouldn’t dare add sweetener!
Final Thoughts…
Hopefully, all of my stories (even if they’re boring) has given you a little more thought to these beverages. Even if you don’t have aspirations to brew anything on your own I try to provide other aspects on these drinks from different angles to be a little more educational. Since I do care about wellness and general health I also have another project that is more oriented to taking care of your body.
I hope you enjoyed this work and feel free to reach out if there’s anything that can be improved or that you want to read about.
